Foray at Dupont State Forest

Date: July 9, 2016
Leader: Ken McGill

View the Species List

On July 9, 2016 AMC held a foray at Guoin Farm in the DuPont State Forest. The foray was arranged by Ken McGill with Mike Hopping and Ginger Fisher helping by leading participants on trails and Mike leading a carpool from Asheville. Andy Methven was the foray mycologist. There were about 30 participants including 6 students who came with Dr. Methven from classes he was teaching in Highlands. The weather was clear and the temperature comfortable. 57 species of mushrooms were identified including a few good edibles. Excitement included a bear being seen along one of the trails and an injured mountain biker being taken away by helicopter which landed next to the pavilion we had reserved. We all wish the biker a full recovery. Other than mountain biker’s accident everyone had a good time and hopefully learned a little more about fungi.
