Foray Leader: Ken McGill
Download Species List

The foray was arranged by Ken McGill with Jackie Schieb and Charlotte Caplan leading participants on trails from the  trail head at Guion Farm.   Dan Manning led the carpool from Asheville as well as bringing the foray tables and supplies. There were 40 participants. The weather was overcast, and the temperature warm. Fortunately the rain held off until just after the foray ended.

132 species of mushrooms were identified; probably a record for a DuPont foray and close to the club record for a one day foray.  Three species were new to AMC:  Amanita albocreata, Clitocybe squamulosa, and Xylocoremium flabelliforme – the anamorph (asexual) form of Xylaria cubensis.  Mike Hopping  served as the chief identifier with the help of Charlotte Caplan, Barbara Moerk, and several members of the new identification training group. Many thanks to David Jarjoura for taking on the task of the species list and getting the job done quickly.   Everyone had a good day, and there was quite a variety of edible mushrooms found.
